He served as a Major with 4 Infantry until October and after an illness was returned with general debility and overage. Noted at a Soldiers Certificate presentation 15.6.1918. He died at home in Heidelberg, 1.6.1931, the brief notice giving his rank as Lieutenant Colonel.
