URL2: Captain BRAND, of Queenton, who went over to South Africa as an officer in the last contingent, writes to Major Hooper that his men were much disappointed to have to return without "a scrap" or seeing the country. During the few weeks they were in South Africa they camped at Newcastle. When ordered to embark the men who wished to do so, could obtain their discharge, and of the Northern Troop, [illegible] officers and 74 men elected to remain in South Africa. Those of the ?Dalrymple (Charters Towers) Troop who elected to remain in the dark continent were WF ANDERSON, A ARMSTRONG, WL CAMPBELL, AA DUNN, JC DUNN, W DUNN, P ERSKINE, W JONES, RG HARDING, _ LE FEURE, W PRICE, S PRICE, RW RAINE, T SOLWAY, J COATES, G GOLDSMITH, E GORE, T SINGLETON, TB HAWKINS, HW WHITE and J WHITEHOUSE. The last six were suffering from measles, and were left in Hospital.
