Hint: This site is intended as a search aid - not a definitive source. It is essentially an index to documents that seem to relate to this person plus a very brief precis of relevant elements. Sources often conflict and I also flag things with a ? when I am unsure. So if the information below is important to you, then please check the original sources to see what else they contain (and in case I have inadvertantly introduced transcription and/or precising errors). There can be additional information that was not included in the database for both space and copyright reasons.

URL5: Casino NSW Tuesday 29.5.1945. Mr. Herbert Edward CRISP (73), one of the best known figures in Casino for many years, died suddenly last night. Feeling unwell, he visited a doctor's surgery and his removal to Casino Memorial Hospital was ordered. He died before reaching the hospital. A native of England, he came to Australia at the age of 16. He settled for a time in Queensland, where he acquired a station property. He volunteered in the Boer War and remained in the forces until the end of that war, later assisted in quelling a native rising. About 40 years ago he came to the Richmond River district and was engaged on a station in the Tabulam district, where he joined up with the Light Horse and subsequently served in the last war at Palestine and Egypt. On his return to Australia he took up land at Back Creek, under the Returned Soldiers' Act, later disposing of it and moving to Casino, where he engaged in clerical work and established an agency business, which he was still carrying on at the time of his death. He was an active member of the Casino branch of the Returned Soldiers' League and always took part in the Anzac Day commemorations. He was a clarionet and violin player and a member of orchestras in Casino over a number of years. The funeral will leave St. Mark's Church of England to-morrow, after a service commencing at 10.45 am for the Casino cemetery. URL6: Welcome Home to Robertson Soldiers. A number of relatives and friends met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J COLLINS, Camperdown, Sydney, on the 1st inst [8.1902] to welcome home the Robertson unit of the returned soldiers from South Africa. The soldiers present were Sergts. VANDENBERGH and CRISP, Troopers J CARRICK, R MISSINGHAM and CW VANDENBERGH. It was regretted that several others were unable to attend owing to ill-health. A very enjoyable evening was spent dancing, the popular ping pong and several other games were indulged in, and last but by no means least, a recharche supper passed the time all to speedily. The nights enjoyment will long remain a pleasant memory with all who were present.

Apology: For some time now it has been difficult to keep up with the newly available sources (especially the Trove newspaper site) plus the flow of contributions and queries. So I have been forced to prioritise maintenance and data entry over replying to correspondence. Nevertheless, your contributions are being added to the database and acknowledged on the contributions page and, although my replies are many months behind, I will attempt to get to them more often.
