Source:# 1578 ELSTON, William Ernest enlisted for WW1 duties on 13.10.1915, a 45 year-old farmer, married and in Western Australia; served as Lieutenant, later Captain and taken Prisoner Of War at Gallipoli, repatriated to Australia December, 1918. Posted Missing. Born 10.5.1869, died in Perth, 1955, 87 years of age, parents shown as William L and Eleanor.

URL4: Lieutenant WE ELSTON, one of the West Australians reported missing, is the eldest son of the late Mr WLA ELSTON, a former manager of the National Bank of Australasia, Ballarat, Victoria, and of Mrs. ELSTON, Mair street, Ballarat. Lieutenant ELSTON was born at Camperdown, Victoria, and enlisted with the Queensland Bushmen during the Boer war, and entered Mafeking shortly after the siege was raised.
