Hint: This site is intended as a search aid - not a definitive source. It is essentially an index to documents that seem to relate to this person plus a very brief precis of relevant elements. Sources often conflict and I also flag things with a ? when I am unsure. So if the information below is important to you, then please check the original sources to see what else they contain (and in case I have inadvertantly introduced transcription and/or precising errors). There can be additional information that was not included in the database for both space and copyright reasons.

URL7: On Tuesday evening of last week [16.11.1943], at the Dubbo NSW Red Cross Rooms, a farewell-dinner was tendered to Lieut. Colonel CM Fetherstonhaugh DSO by the officers from Group Headquarters and the various detachments of the VDC under his command, on the occasion of his retirement. The chair was taken by Major Bennett of the 25th Battalion. The toast of "The' Guest" was proposed by Captain EH Druitt of HQ and supported by Major Suttor, 23rd Battalion, Bathurst, Major Jones, 25th Battalion Dubbo, Major Stewart, 2Gth Battalion Orange. Flattering remarks were made concerning the guest of the evening who joined the VDC on its inception in July 1940 on part-time duty and later took up full-time duty. Reference was made to the wonderful service which Lieut. Colonel Featherstonhaugh gave to the VDC and his departure was regretted by all. Lieut. Colonel Featherstonhaugh served with conspicuous gallantry in the Boer War and World War No. 1. He commanded a squadron in the Light Horse Regiment and won the DSO in the Battle of Beersheba, when that regiment made their fammous charge with fixed bayonets on horseback. He also served at Gallipoli and took part in the capture of Damascus. Captain Brittain, Adjutant of 25th Battalion, proposed the toast of the Red Cross ladies who were responsible for such a splendid repast. URL8: letter from Vredefort dated 26.7.1900. Apology: For some time now it has been difficult to keep up with the newly available sources (especially the Trove newspaper site) plus the flow of contributions and queries. So I have been forced to prioritise maintenance and data entry over replying to correspondence. Nevertheless, your contributions are being added to the database and acknowledged on the contributions page and, although my replies are many months behind, I will attempt to get to them more often.
