URL5: Lieut.-Col. AYTOUN, lately acting-Adjutant-General and Chief Staff Officer of the forces in Queensland, is also en route to Europe on the Barbarossa [c1.1903]. His experience in Australia dates back to 1888, when he first came out as Infantry Staff Officer. He also served for twelve months in South Africa with the fourth Queensland Contingent (1st Imperial Bushmen). Lieut.-Col. AYTOUN has now retired from the Commonwealth service.
URL6: Lieutenant-Colonel AYTOUN, of the Head-quarters Staff, whose term of service with the Queensland Defence Force is just about to expire, will leave Brisbane next month [c12.1902] for England, to report himself at the War Office. Lieutenant-Colonel AYTOUN has acted in several capacities on the staff since his appointment, latterly as Chief Staff Officer and Assistant Adjutant-General, and in all instances proved himself "An officer and a gentleman".
