Helen moved to Melbourne after Christmas 2000, to pursue a career in singing. We planned lots of visits back and forth, but I only made it to Melbourne once.
It was a good long visit - ten days! - and I'm indebted to Helen's grandmother, Margaret Brown, for hospitality well above the call of duty.
It was the longest time I'd ever spent in Melbourne, so I had a chance to experience the remarkable changing weather and the terror of driving among trams. Helen loves living there: approves ecstatically of the public transport system, and enjoys the fact that there's always something going on.
