Soldiers
of the Queen in the Second Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902
CAN YOU HELP?
Contributions
of information for inclusion in the SOTQ Index are welcome
and will be acknowledged on the website.
Being potentially a rather large and labour intensive project, only
multi-name electronic
documents can be processed for the SOTQ Index. That is
unfortunate but, with the limited
resources available, it is simply not possible to
process emails offering one or a
handful of names. Ideally, the information provided should be in the
.csv text file/spreadsheet format
illustrated
below as it is often difficult to extract the relevant data from
ordinary text/word processor files or html documents.
The preferred format should just be a matter of organising the
material into a table (using either a spreadsheet or perhaps a table
within a
word
processor document)
and saving that table separately as a comma-delimited text file (ie
with
the .csv suffix). The Calc
spreadsheet package from the Open Office.org suite
is a suitable tool which is available as a free, but rather large,
download for Windows, Apple Mac and
Linux.
Material
for the SOTQ Index can be sent to croe@pcug.org.au
as an email attachment.

without any text delimiter

+ It doesn't matter whether or not the
surnames
are
in all upper case
as the display script will do that.
# Similarly, it doesn't matter whether initials are followed by full
stops and/or spaces as they will both be deleted when displayed.
* Inclusion
of rank
and regimental number where ever possible would
be appreciated but is not obligatory. Those two fields are not included
in the
online SOTQ Index because it is an index to information
available elsewhere - not an alternative source of that information.
Rather, the rank and number data is to help identify Australians
serving in
the Boer War in non-Australian units for the Oz-Boer
Database
Project.
^ If an online source is not sufficiently self
explanatory then some additional details will be needed.
~
Publication/availability details of documents that
are not accessible
online is needed for the sources
page.
Note: The Index of Soldiers and Nurses of the
Queen in the Second Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902 is a strictly
non-commercial 'enthusiast' project.
