A raster image maps digital information. Such a bitmap is a grid of pixels. Each of which defines the colour and position of a dot.
This format can represent details and is supported by most web browsers. Such Internet images can be viewed on a monitor, or printed on paper.
Raster images are suitable for capturing complex realism, such as photography and painting.
However, enlarging raster images is problematic. As the resulting pixelation produces a blocky, jagged appearance.
Additionally, high-resolution raster files tend to be large, requiring substantial storage space.
